      Biomimetic engineering

It means imitating life. Nature is fantastic, it has very elegant solutions to many problems, it is very efficient in many cases. I think we can draw inspiration from biology to improve many engineering designs.

Argh – Aron has the same thought as me! But it us true – I love very simple engineering, often the simplest designs are going to work the best, be the most reliable and often are the most beautiful and elegant. It is very easy to overthink a problem – a ‘classic’ example (and I don’t even know if it is true) is that America spent a lot of time designing a pen that would work in the zero gravity of space. Russia just took up pencils.

I actually really like designing cameras for looking at other planets, but I’m not particularly good at it. I normally end up handing my ideas to a specialist optical design engineer to make sure the idea for a lens or a mirror can actually be built.
I also like designing and building electronics.
