      Very good question!

Under the UK government there is something called STFC (Science and Technology Facilities Council) a group of laboratories and people who do research. STFC support both universities and industry and help both of them to do science.

RAL (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory) is one of the STFC facilities in Oxfordshire near Didcot. RAL has about 1200 staff, mainly engineers and scientists.

There are a lot of cool research going on at RAL, lasers, materials, chemistry, biology, particle physics and of course space.

RAL Space is a part of RAL with about 300 staff and we work on space missions.
