It is great! I really enjoy working with the people I work with, doing the job I do! I think they do a very good job at hiring people who are not only technically capable/competent, but also will work well with the team. One ‘issue’ with it (which I’m sure will be the same in any reasonably large company) is that there is a lot of bureaucracy, before you can make a final decision on things you tend to have to ask at least two people which can slow things down a bit – but can also save the day when one of those people notice you got something wrong!
Indeed it is great. It is somewhere between industry and academia. This means we do all the exciting research but we can also play with hardware, and see the project to the end.
We work with a lot of people, after all our mission is to help people get together and achieve their research goals, so you meet a lot of interesting people from universities and companies.
RAL Space is also very supportive of what you want and the company helps you pursue your own interests and ideas and when appropriate link it in the research program.
