Firstly that it has so many uses to us here on Earth, that is really important. From an Engineering point of view it is the challenge of having to get everything perfectly right else it wont work, and we can’t fix it once it’s been launched!

I like it because it’s such a strange place, and the spacecraft we build are really interesting machines. They are also very unique – no two satellite projects look the same – which means you always have fresh challenges!

Also, as Jess said, I like that I’m working to make the lives of people better by applying technology to solve problems. It’s very satisfying to know that the projects I’m working on directly make the world better…

Discovery, we are finding new things all the time that can change our understanding of science.

Also the technology we build for space in many cases drives and advances terrestrial technology.

I enjoy the exploration part, where you get to see things that no one has seen before. I also enjoy seeing how all the pieces of our understanding of the Solar System fit together. E.g. how our measurements of the atmosphere of Mars can be used to test how well our weather forecasting models for the Earth work.
