Within my team, we are all unique as we all do different things. I also hope I’m known as someone who gets things done and progressing the team in the right direction

As Jess says, all engineers have different skills. In the space sector, there are actually many different types of engineers! You have computer engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers and so on – each having are area they specialize in, which you might call that engineer’s theme as you call it 🙂 But these specializations are not really unique. What makes an engineer unique is her or his skills and experiences. No two engineers are the same!

For me, I don’t know what makes me unique! I started my career in banking, which is very unusual for space engineers, so maybe that? I also have worked on some very different types of projects that I hope mean I have a broader understanding than some specialists, with the down side that I’m not so much of an expert at any one thing.

I’m a systems engineer, bit of a jack of all trades, my objective many times is to make sure things fit together.

In engineering it is all about teamwork and collaboration.

I’m slightly different in that I also teach students (work in a university), my main research themes are to try and understand how the solar system we see came about and how it compares to other solar systems we are now finding around other stars. Most of the space instruments and spacecraft I have worked on have been directed towards helping to answer these very broad types of questions.
